Product FAQ

1. How do I select the right ESC for my power system?
+
Selection requires matching battery type and fully charged voltage, motor model and KV rating, propeller or load, operating current and duration, as well as cooling and control interface. Continuous and peak current ratings should both fall within the ESC’s specified range with appropriate margin for your application. Please provide the above parameters and use case so we can recommend suitable models. See the WBP ESC Selection Guide for details.
2. Does the current rating in the model name mean it can run at that current continuously?
+
The current rating in the model name generally refers to continuous current under proper cooling. WBP ESC manuals specify the duration at different current levels. Do not judge by model name alone. Current capability depends on duration, cooling conditions, and test conditions. Peak current is not a continuous operating current.
3. Should I choose a single ESC or a 4-in-1 ESC?
+
Single ESCs are typically suitable for distributed mounting, independent wiring, or systems where individual replacement is needed, especially for large heavy-lift drones. 4-in-1 ESCs integrate four drivers on one board and are better suited for compact multi-rotor builds such as small FPV drones with limited space. WBP’s 16S high-voltage single ESC series covers 10-30 inch drone systems, while the 8S 4-in-1 ESC series covers 3-13 inch small drone systems.
4. Is my flight controller or receiver compatible with WBP ESCs?
+
WBP ESCs support PWM, DShot300, DShot600, DroneCAN, and SBUS protocols. Specific protocols and speeds depend on the model and firmware version. Before connecting, verify the control output protocol, signal voltage level, and pinout. Please provide your FC or receiver model and interface details for compatibility confirmation.
5. Can the ESC power my receiver or other accessories?
+
This depends on whether the model includes a BEC output. Models without BEC require separate power for the receiver. Models with BEC still require verification of output voltage and current to meet the load requirements. Please follow the wiring diagram for your specific model.
6. How do I choose firmware and configure or update parameters?
+
AM32 and ESCape32 are different firmware platforms requiring configuration tools matching the hardware and factory firmware. Before tuning or updating, confirm the complete model, hardware version, current firmware version, and target firmware. If you cannot find a match, please contact us.
7. What data can I read? Can a 4-in-1 ESC read current per channel?
+
Available data depends on hardware sensors, firmware, and telemetry interface. WBP 4-in-1 ESCs support independent TX telemetry for RPM and temperature. Current and voltage require the flight controller’s VBAT and current sensor pins. If you need independent per-channel measurement, choose single ESCs.
8. What are the cooling and wiring requirements for ESC installation?
+
Provide adequate cooling space and ensure airflow during flight. Do not install the ESC in a sealed enclosure, as heat buildup will cause abnormal operation. Select appropriate power wires, connectors, and mounting based on your application.
9. Do you offer custom solutions for specific projects?
+
We support OEM and ODM. Enterprise projects can submit custom requirements for evaluation. Please describe the desired features, interfaces, operating conditions, estimated purchase volume, and project timeline. Feasibility, development costs, MOQ, lead time, and acceptance criteria must be confirmed before project initiation.
10. How do I request quotes for samples and bulk orders?
+
Please provide target models or application parameters, sample and estimated bulk quantities, destination region, and desired delivery timeline. Before bulk orders, we recommend validating samples in your actual system.
11. What technical documents should I confirm before selection and system integration?
+
Please confirm the datasheet, dimension drawing, wiring diagram, firmware and configuration guide, and any required test or certification documents for the selected model. Documentation should match the actual delivered hardware and firmware version.
12. How do I get technical and after-sales support?
+
Please provide order information, complete ESC model, hardware and firmware version, battery and motor parameters, ESC settings, wiring photos, and operational videos or logs. If you notice smoking or abnormal overheating, stop using the product immediately.

Technical Support FAQ

1. How do I connect the ESC to a PWM receiver or flight controller?
+
First disconnect the power battery and verify the wiring diagram for your model. The ESC PWM port can connect directly to FC M1, M2, M3 ports. For non-isolated PWM ports, signal ground is common with the control signal. Receiver power depends on whether the ESC has a BEC. See the WBP ESC Wiring Guide for detailed instructions.
2. My programming card cannot detect the ESC. How do I troubleshoot?
+
WBP ESCs support both AM32 and ESCape32 firmware. Both can be configured via our WiFi programming module. If the ESC is not detected, first verify the WiFi module-to-ESC connection. See the AM32 and ESCape32 WiFi Programming Module User Manual for details.
3. The motor does not start, or shudders and loses sync during rapid acceleration. What should I do?
+
Stop repeated attempts. Check power supply, three-phase connections, throttle protocol, and arming conditions. Verify motor and load matching. Remove propellers for bench testing. Loss of sync may involve power supply, load, startup parameters, timing, or hardware issues.
4. What should I do if capacitors fail or voltage drops under load?
+
If a capacitor smokes, bulges, or ruptures, stop immediately, power off, and wait for safe discharge. Check polarity, voltage rating, ripple current capability, soldering, and power wiring. Replace with the approved capacitor rating for your model.
5. What is the difference between eRPM and actual motor RPM?
+
Electrical RPM (eRPM) = Mechanical RPM x Number of pole pairs. Pole pairs equal half the number of poles. For example, a 14-pole motor at 200,000 eRPM corresponds to approximately 28,571 mechanical RPM. Actual capability depends on specific hardware, firmware, and load.
6. How do current, low-voltage, and temperature protections work?
+
Protective functions, trigger thresholds, and actions depend on model, firmware version, and settings. They may involve power limiting, stopping drive, or requiring re-arm. Protection features do not replace proper component selection.
7. How do I confirm compatibility for high-power systems or bench testing?
+
First confirm that target voltage, operating current, and duration are within the model’s verified range, with clear cooling conditions. Use reliable mounting and safety barriers. Start at low load and gradually increase, recording voltage, current, and temperature.
8. Can the ESC be used for underwater thrusters or replace OEM ESCs in sealed systems?
+
Yes, ESCs can be used for underwater thruster systems. ESCape32 firmware is generally recommended. Whether it can replace an OEM ESC depends on the control protocol used by the original system. Most systems use PWM control and can be directly replaced.
