Customer: a professional aerobatic (3D) helicopter pilot, known for demanding maximum control feel and power response. This case documents how the WBP Atlas Sink 16S160A G2 single ESC was selected, installed, and field-tested on a 550-class aerobatic helicopter, with ESCape32 firmware flashed at the factory.
Platform: Nimbus 550V2 aerobatic helicopter
Motor: Xnova 4025 830KV brushless motor
Rotor: 560 mm main blades
Power: 8S LiPo
Peak measured current: 208.27 A at full-throttle 3D maneuvers
ESC: WBP Atlas Sink 16S160A G2 (factory-flashed ESCape32)

Project Background
The customer flies aggressive 3D routines on a Nimbus 550V2 with an Xnova 4025 830KV motor and 560 mm blades on 8S LiPo. During full-throttle aerobatic flight the system draws a measured peak of 208.27 A, demanding sustained high-current output, rock-solid governor accuracy, and current headroom for 3D spikes.
ESC Selection
After comparing options, the pilot chose the WBP Atlas Sink 16S160A G2:
- 16S maximum input voltage, with headroom above the 8S pack.
- 160 A continuous / high peak rating, covering the 208 A measured spikes.
- Built-in adjustable 5–12 V BEC up to 20 A, powering servos and receiver without an external BEC.
The pilot specifically requested ESCape32 open-source firmware flashed at the factory, so he could tune throttle curve, governor gain, timing, and protection thresholds to his own flying style.

Flight Test & Customer Feedback
After installation, the pilot completed two full test sessions covering hover, pirouettes, inverted flight, and full 3D aerobatics. His feedback focused on governor performance:
- Under high collective pitch, rapid pull-outs, and fast pitch reversals, RPM held steady with no bogging or lag.
- Power delivery felt linear and matched to stick input, better than the previous brand.
- The ESC stayed within normal temperature through the 205 A-class regime, with no protection triggers.
Outcome
This case validates the Atlas Sink 16S160A G2 in a high power-density aerobatic helicopter role: stable and cool at 200 A-class transient loads, open tunable firmware, and precise governor control.
